We had almost 18 months of celebration to mark both the opening of the school in January 1909 to the graduation of the first elementary school class and opening of the high school in 1910. See below for a short list of the events that celebrated Star’s first 100 years. Photos of these events will be posted here and are included in the centennial book.
January 5th 2009 – Bishop William Justice celebrated a school Mass to honor the students, families and the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Carondelet, our school founders.
January 24th, 2009 – Winter Ball at the Fairmont Hotel. What a glorious evening! Thanks to all who were able to make it.
March 21st, 2009 – Centennial Fun Run. The fun Run was a well attended success for several generations of “Stars”. It took place in Golden Gate Park at Lindley Meadow and the run was followed by a barbecue and lots of good cheers.
September 6th, 2009 12:15 pm - Archbishop George Niederauer celebrated the Centennial Mass and rededicated the School. So many alumni “came home” for the re-dedication.
December 6th, 2009 – An Evening of Stars, Fashion Show and Holiday Boutique at the Star Gym, again with several generations of current and past Stars participating in the Fashion Show.
January 30th, 2010 – Centennial Basketball Tournament. Star hosted a basketball tournament and invited all the schools in san Francisco that were, like Star, centenarians. A great time was had by all and one of the highlights was the fathers’ game.
April 30th to May 2nd, 2010 – Alumni weekend
Friday, April 30, 2010 – The Centennial Alumni Weekend Celebration kick-off with the 7th Annual Spring Gala and Auction at the Fairmont Hotel San Francisco. Great food, wine tasting, silent and live auction, and dancing brought alumni, parishioners, parents and faculty together, raising funds for our school’s Science Lab.
Saturday, May 1, 2010: there was a golf scramble and barbecue at Golden Gate Park and several Class took advantage to turn into a planned or impromptu reunion.
Sunday, May 2, 2010 conclude the weekend and the centennial celebrations with a Centennial Mass and Open House of both the grammar and high schools, and a preview of the Science Lab as well as the history exhibit.
