Dear Parents and Students,
I hope you have had a wonderful, fun filled, relaxing summer! But I for one have to admit; I am excited about the start of a new school year. Although Sandra and I got several days to learn how to be grandparents, I still put in a lot of time at Star. Reports must be filed, bills must be paid and Cannonball must be fed. There were even a few new families to meet! But for the most part, this beautiful, old building is really boring without the kids running around. Every summer I am reminded that this building is not Star; we are Star! The clergy, the administrators, the teachers, the staff, the parents, the alumni, the parishioners, and the students are Star.
You may have read that Ms. Maureen Huntington, our Superintendent of Catholic Schools retired at the end of the school year. She was our fearless leader for almost fourteen years and she will be missed. Ms. Nina Russo will be stepping in for a year while a nationwide search for our new Superintendent gets started. Many of you have met Ms. Russo at Archdiocesan School Board meetings and she has visited Star on several occasions over the last few years. We look forward to working with her.
This year is our preparation year for our Western Catholic Educational Association / Western Association of Schools and Colleges Accreditation Visit. Many of our faculty meetings this year and a few of our Parent Club meetings will be devoted to this process. I have re run a short explanation of WCEA / WASC below. The actual accreditation visit will be in the spring of 2017.
I hope to see you all in the schoolyard some morning really soon and don’t forget Back To School Night is coming next Thursday at 6:30 in Church. You can’t miss that! Isn’t that a friendly, positive way to say, “Your attendance is mandatory?”
It’s great to have the family all coming home!
