Weekly Letter (Nov 16 ’15)

Dear Parents and Students,

As you probably know, most weeks we have two student-body Masses. Classes can choose to come to either Wednesday afternoon Mass or Friday morning Mass. One week per month all of us go to Mass together on Wednesday afternoon. It was at one of those “all school” Masses just a week or so ago that I heard something that truly touched my heart. As we started to recite The Lord’s Prayer, I noticed that the volume was way up and the pace was way slower than usual. It took me only a moment to realize that the Kindergarten had just learned the prayer. That wasn’t the surprise though; curriculum is somewhat predictable. What brought joy to my heart was the fact that the other classes slowed down and followed the lead of the five and six year olds.

At the end of Mass, I thanked the Kindergartners for leading us in the Our Father and noted that it was great of the older kids to allow them to be the leaders. I also couldn’t help but point out that Christianity started with a child about two thousand years ago. In so many verses of Christian scripture, we read of the importance of welcoming children and being as innocent as they are. With Thanksgiving only a few days away I want to thank you parents and especially you students for being such a joy to be around.
