Weekly Letter (Jan 4 ’16)

Dear Parents and Students,

Merry Christmas and welcome back! I hope you had a wonderful break from school and got to spend some quality family time.

During this special Year of Mercy I want to share with you how our children are both learning and performing the Corporal Works of Mercy for each other and the San Francisco community.

FEED THE HUNGRY. For many years it has been a Star custom to collect canned food items for the San Francisco Food Bank. Usually we fill a dozen barrels with food items to share with our less fortunate sisters and brothers. One year we actually filled 17 barrels! And, for the last 4 years Star seventh graders under the direction of Mrs. Lundy and Mr. Quintilian (who has since retired), have volunteered once a month to help at the Food Bank. This is hard work and without volunteers the Food Bank would not be able to serve all the people who need it. If you care to help at the San Francisco Food Bank here is their contact information:

Our mission is to end hunger in San Francisco and Marin.

As for feeding the hungry here at Star, I have never known a parent group to be so thoughtful as to bring us goodies so often. Kids who forget lunch know (or should know) that they can always get something to eat from the office or their friends. It may seem silly, but Christianity is a faith built around food (the Eucharist) and so feeding each other, sharing a meal, is a very important part of our culture.

God Bless You All,

Terrence Hanley
