Our Philosophy

Star of the Sea exists as part of a thriving faith community over 100 years old. Under the advocacy of Mary, our patroness, we guide families who trust their children’s education to our care. Inspired by the educational tradition of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, we meet students where they are in order to lead them on the path toward Christ.

We fully accept that parents are the primary educators of their children. In choosing Star of the Sea they show commitment to a faith-based education. In turn, we pledge to work with parents to teach the Catholic faith to the baptized and to share the gift of that faith with all who come to Star of the Sea School. We prepare children to receive the sacraments and become faithful Christians and responsible contributing members of the community.

We see effective Catholic education as growing in discipleship of Christ, developing a prayer life, becoming willing servants of those in need, and living as intentional stewards of creation. Stewardship begins with commitment to the development of the gifts each has received as a child of God. To that end, Star of the Sea School is committed to assisting each student in achieving his/her potential in the various aspects of the curriculum: academic, aesthetic, physical and spiritual.

Star of the Sea School serves an ethnically and spiritually diverse community. We strive to honor our Catholic identity by living respectfully in community, by educating in love and mercy, and by welcoming all who wish to share this vision.
